اليوم بحب احكي عن صيحة مثيرة للجدل. حزام المشد. أعتقد أنه من الآمن القول أن هاي الصيحة اصبحت شعبية في جميع أنحاء العالم عند بنات الكارداشيانز والجينرز وبلشو يلبسوهم مع أي شيء. على البلوزة،فوق التيشيرت, فستان، جاكيتات، سترات، والقائمة تطول.

وكتير من الفاشنيستاز والنساء في جميع أنحاء العالم بدأوا يعتنقوا هذه الصيحة، مما سبب ردود فعل غاضبة من قبل النساء والنسويات في جميع أنحاء العالم اللي انتقدت هاي الصيحة. وبصفتي نسوية، أستطيع أن أفهم تماما الأسباب الكامنة وراء هذه الردود، ولكن قبل ما نحكي عن هالموضوع، خلونا نحكي شوي عن تاريخ مشد

بدأت النساء ارتداء الكورسيهات او المشدات في القرن السادس عشر، ونسبت إلى كاترين دي ميديسي، زوجة الملك هنري الثاني من فرنسا اللي فرضت حظر على الخصر السميك او المليان في حضور المحكمة خلال خمسينيات القرن التاسع عشر، وكان الغرض من الكورسيت هو عقد وتدريب جسم المرأة  ليظهر انحف عن طريق تصغير الخصر. كانت المشدات جدا مقيدة  للنساء اللي كانوا يعانوا من الالم من هذا الثوب. منذ ما يقرب من 350 عاما، كانت وسائل الدعم الأساسية للمرأة هي المشدات مع الأربطة المصنوعة من عظم الحيتان أو المعدن. ومر هيكل لبمشد بكتير من التغييرات خلال السنوات, فبلشوا يستعملوا القصب أو عظام الحوت،والبوسك المصنوعة من الخشب، القرون، والمعادن أو العاج وغيرها, متل ما بنلاحظ جميعها ادوات صلبة وقاسية على جسم المرأة (*)، ولكن كان الغرض هو نفسه :  تنحيف خصر المرأة.

هلأ أنا متأكدة من أنكم فهمتوا ليش النسويات في جميع أنحاء العالم غضبوا لما رجع حزام المشد كصيحة الى عالم الازياء, لانه استغرق سنوات عديدة من العمل الشاق جدا وتضحية النساء للوصول إلى نقطة تحرير أجسادهن من القمع. وعودة المشد للموضة ممكن ترسل رسالة خاطئة لأسباب مختلفة كثيرة؛ منها اضطهاد المرأة، وكونه رمز للقمع وتقييد جسم المرأة، البودي شيمينج والنظر الى المرأة كجسد فقط، وممكن هاي الصيحة تظهر كساخرة لكل العمل النساء الشاق لإنجاز التقدم على مر السنين.

شخصيا، عندي وجهة نظر مختلفة حول هذا الموضوع، مش من المفروض أن يكون خيار كل امرأة تلبس شو بدها؟ حزام المشد اليوم مصنوع من الاقمشة الناعمة والمطاطة او الجلد ولا يؤلم ولا يعذب وممكن يكون مظهره حلو, مش النسوية معناها اتخاذ خياراتنا الخاصة في كل جانب من جوانب الحياة، بما في ذلك مظهرنا وما نرتديه؟ مش معنى النسوية هو عن احتضان أجسادنا وجنسانيتنا وعدم الخجل أو الشعور بالعار سواء كان نحيف ا ملئ او اي اشي تاني؟ أليس هدف النسوية هو ان نصل الى مرحلة لا داعي فيها للقلق حول ما نرتديهونفعله ونفكره او اي قرار نتخذه كنساء؟

أنا بحب مظهر حزام مشد لأنه بشوفه حلو، وشخصيا، عندي خصر نحيف وبحس انه بشدد كسمي, وهاد بقولش اللي اللي عندها خصر اوسع بتقدرش تلبسه. ولكنبالنسبة الي, الهدف من النسوية، انه ماكونش مجبورة اعطي تفسيرات لحدا وأشرح نفسي، كامرأة، في اي قرار، إلا إذا كان من ارادتي. إذا، هل ممكن يكون منطقي، أن حزام مشد هو في الواقع رمز للنسوية؟ كتير بحب اسمع رأيك بهاد الموضوع ويا ريت تكتبولي في التعليقات شو بتفكروا

How have you been? Hope you are all well

Today I’d like to talk about a controversial trend; the corset belt. I think it is safe to say that this trend has become super popular worldwide since the Kardashians \ Jenners started wearing them with, well, anything. Over a dress, a t-shirt, a t-shirt dress, sweatshirts, jackets, and the list goes on.

Many fashionistas around the world embraced the trend, and the angry responses by women and feminists around the world came in no time. As a feminist, I can totally understand the reasons behind these responses, but before we go there, let’s talk a little about the history of the corset:

Women started wearing corsets in the sixteenth century and it has been attributed to Catherine de’ Medici, wife of King Henry II of France. She enforced a ban on thick waists at court attendance during the 1550s, and the corset’s purpose was to hold and train the torso into the desired slimmer shape, traditionally a smaller waist or larger bottom; it was very restrictive for women who suffered from pain wearing that garment. For nearly 350 years, women’s primary means of support was the corset, with laces and stays made of whalebone or metal. The structure of the corset undergone many changes through the years as it was stiffened with boning of reed or whalebone, a busk made of wood, horn, whalebone, metal or ivory further reinforced the central front(*), but the purpose was the same: slimming women’s waist.

Now I am sure you can understand why feminists around the world were outraged when this trend made a comeback, as it took so many years of very hard work and sacrifice for women to get to a point where they can free their bodies from oppression. Bringing the corset belt back as a trend might send the wrong message for many different reasons; objectifying women, the corset as a symbol for oppression and restricting of a woman’s body, body shaming, and a trend that may seem as mocking to all the hard work women have done to accomplish the progress through the years.

Personally, I have a different perspective about this, isn’t it supposed to be our choice? Isn’t feminism about making our own choices in every aspect in life, including our appearance and what we wear? Isn’t it about embracing our bodies and sexuality and not be ashamed or shamed for it? Aren’t we supposed to be at a point where we don’t have to worry about what we wear, do, eat, and just do what we want?

I like the corset belt because, personally, I have a slim waist and it extenuates my figure, but the thing about feminism is, I do not really have to explain myself, as a woman, to anyone, unless I want to. So, could it be possible, that the corset belt is actually a symbol of feminism? I would really love it if you would share your thoughts about this with me in the comments below.
